The Ojibwe originally inhabited an area near the northern side of the St. Lawrence Sea Way. Over the years bands migrated west. While some settled along the way, others kept moving as far west as present day Montana. Their traditional style of canoe was for the most part unchanging until they made contact with the Dakota Sioux at the far west end of Lake Superior. This canoe would be similar to those found from Quebec to Wisconsin. This is what might have been seen during the Pontiac Wars. The one shown is a 14' hunting canoe. It is 13" deep at center, 34" beam, 21" prow height, and the hull is a single sheet of bark.
